Two New “K” Codes for Therapeutic Continuous Glucose Monitors for Blue Cross Medicare Advantage PPO^SM and Blue Cross Medicare Advantage HMO^SM

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has published an article that provides CMS guidance to Medicare providers to help providers and suppliers submitting claims to Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) for services provided to Medicare beneficiaries.

CMS has implemented two new codes for therapeutic Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM) that will be added to the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) code set, and the Medicare Advantage CPT Preauthorization Code List effective January 1, 2018. The addition of these codes (K0553 and K0554) will facilitate Durable Medical Equipment (DME) (MAC) claims processing for therapeutic CGMs.
